Human Society & Its Environment (HSIE)
The HSIE Faculty at Maronite College of the Holy Family offers students a comprehensive range of subjects that present them with opportunities to achieve academic excellence and actively partake in extracurricular activities. The subjects offered within The HSIE Faculty include: History, Geography and Commerce in Stages 4 and 5. In Stage 6, students have the option to select from: Economics, Business Studies, Legal Studies, Society and Culture, Ancient History, Modern History, History Extension and Geography.
In years 8-10, students undertake studies in History; investigating the ancient worlds, acquiring the investigative and analytical skills of an historian, developing a rich understanding of Australia’s development into an active democratic nation in the 21st Century. In Years 7, 9 and 10, students study Geography, allowing our students to develop an avid interest in the physical and human environments, acquiring geographical skills and values. Both History and Geography Courses facilitate the development of our students into informed and active citizens. As part of their studies in Stage 5, students are given the opportunity to select Commerce as an elective for study. If selected, this course provides students with the knowledge and skills associated with consumer, financial, legal business and employment issues.
The HSIE Curriculum offers students in Stage 6 the capacity to continue exploring their interests and mastering their skills for possible future vocational directions. At Maronite College of the Holy Family, we strive to ensure that our students achieve their ultimate potential, with sophisticated implementation of syllabus outcomes and requirements. We understand the needs of our students and endeavour to employ all means possible to assist them in their academic journey; helping them to evolve into informed and responsible individuals, active members of their communities.
