Mathematics

The aim of Mathematics at Maronite College of the Holy Family is to promote students appreciation and application of Mathematics in their everyday lives creatively and efficiently. Students are encouraged to develop their mathematical thinking, understanding, reasoning, and competence in solving mathematical problems.

With the current qualified staff, we are working on the essential mathematical skills and knowledge in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. We are providing new learning environment in the technology area by using tools such as web-based programs and Interactive White Board. This makes learning mathematics fun and enjoyable.

Numeracy skills are essential to every student and they need these skills in their personal, work and civic life.

Mathematics is a compulsory subject for all students in from Years 7-10 (Optional in Years 11-12).

Mathematics is offered currently in the following stages: (will change with the national curriculum)

The following courses and electives are currently offered:

Years 7 & 8 (Stage 4)

All students in Years 7 and 8 study the same core course material.

YEARS 9 & 10 (Stage 5)

Stage 5.1 – This gives the students the minimum background for study of General 1 Mathematics in Year 11.

Stage 5.1/5.2 – This gives the students the ideal background for study of General 2 Mathematics in Year 11.

Stage 5.1/5.2/5.3 – It is intended for very capable and highly motivated students

  • General Mathematics (2 Unit)
  • Mathematics (2 Unit)
  • Extension 1 (1 Unit Extension to the Mathematics course)

Year 12 (Stage 6)

  • Mathematics General 1 and General 2
  • Mathematics
  • Mathematics Extension 1
  • Mathematics Extension 2
