Special Education is the general term used for the programs and services offered to meet the needs of the Funded Special Education students and those students who aren’t funded but still receive Special Education assistance. We focus mainly on flexibility of teaching programs and good teaching practice.
We aim to highlight the strengths of each student and the unique gifts they bring to our College. The Special Education students are totally integrated into the mainstream classes and gain the support they need to access the curriculum from their mainstream teachers and the Special Education teacher and Teachers’ Aide.
Special Provisions are provided for these students when completing assessment tasks and in exam situations. The mainstream teachers of these students are quick to realise their limitations and modify content, expectations and assessment tasks to suit their needs and ability levels. This is done in consultation with each KLA coordinator and the Special Education coordinator.
